Creating a SpotCharge Account

Why Create an Account?

A SpotCharge account unlocks powerful features whether you're an EV driver or a charging station owner. Drivers can save favorite locations, write reviews, and track their charging history. Station owners can claim locations, update information, and respond to reviews.

Choosing Your Account Type

SpotCharge offers two account types:

Driver Account

  • Save favorite charging stations
  • Write and manage reviews
  • Track charging history
  • Get personalized recommendations
  • Receive notifications about nearby stations

Location Owner Account

  • Claim and manage charging station listings
  • Update station information (hours, pricing, access)
  • Respond to reviews
  • Upload photos
  • Access analytics (Premium plans)
  • Manage multiple locations

Don't worry: You can browse stations and view information without an account. Creating an account is optional but recommended for the best experience.

Step-by-Step Sign Up

1. Navigate to Sign Up Page

Visit spotcharge.io/sign-up or click "Sign Up" in the top navigation menu.

2. Choose Your Account Type

Select either Driver or Location Owner based on your primary use case.

Tip: If you're both an EV driver and a station owner, create a Location Owner account - you'll have access to all driver features plus owner tools.

3. Enter Your Information

Required Information:

  • Email address
  • Password (minimum 8 characters, include uppercase, lowercase, and numbers)
  • Display name (how you'll appear in reviews)

Optional Information:

  • Profile photo
  • Location (city/state for personalized recommendations)

4. Verify Your Email

After submitting the form:

  1. Check your email inbox
  2. Click the verification link in the email from SpotCharge
  3. You'll be redirected to your dashboard

Didn't receive the email?

  • Check your spam/junk folder
  • Wait 5 minutes (emails can be delayed)
  • Click "Resend verification email" on the sign-up page

5. Complete Your Profile

After verifying your email, complete your profile:

For Drivers:

  • Add your EV make and model (for connector compatibility)
  • Set your home location for nearby station recommendations
  • Configure notification preferences

For Location Owners:

  • Add your business name
  • Provide contact information
  • Choose your subscription tier (Free, Premium, or Premium Multi)

Account Security Best Practices

Create a Strong Password:

  • At least 12 characters
  • Mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
  • Avoid personal information (birthdays, names)
  • Don't reuse passwords from other sites

Enable Two-Factor Authentication (Coming Soon):

  • Extra layer of security for your account
  • Receive verification codes via SMS or authenticator app

Keep Your Email Updated:

  • We send important notifications to your email
  • Update your email in account settings if it changes

Switching Account Types

Need to switch from Driver to Location Owner (or vice versa)?

To Upgrade to Location Owner:

  1. Go to Account Settings
  2. Click "Upgrade to Location Owner"
  3. Complete the additional information
  4. Start claiming locations

Note: Upgrading keeps all your driver data (favorites, reviews). You gain owner features without losing driver features.

Free vs Paid Accounts

All accounts start Free with these features:

Free Driver Account:

  • Unlimited favorites
  • Unlimited reviews
  • Charging history tracking
  • Personalized recommendations

Free Location Owner Account:

  • 1 claimed location
  • 3 photos per location
  • 1 review response per month
  • Basic analytics

Premium Upgrades Available:

  • Premium ($19/month): 3 locations, 25 photos, unlimited responses
  • Premium Multi ($49/month): 5 locations, unlimited photos, custom branding

Troubleshooting Sign Up Issues

"Email already in use"

  • You may already have an account
  • Try signing in instead
  • Use "Forgot password" if you don't remember your password

Verification email not arriving

  • Check spam/junk folder
  • Add noreply@spotcharge.io to your contacts
  • Try a different email address
  • Contact support if issues persist

"Invalid email format"

  • Ensure your email is formatted correctly (example@domain.com)
  • No spaces before or after the email
  • Some special characters aren't allowed

Password requirements not met

  • Minimum 8 characters
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one lowercase letter
  • At least one number
