Saving Favorite Charging Locations
Why Save Favorites?
Saving favorite charging locations helps you:
- Quick access to your go-to stations
- Route planning for regular trips
- Offline reference when you need a reliable station
- Track your habits and preferred charging spots
Who should use favorites?
- Daily commuters with regular charging stops
- Road trippers planning multi-stop routes
- Drivers who found reliable stations they want to remember
How to Save a Favorite
Method 1: From Station Card (Search Results)
- Visit /locations
- Browse or search for a station
- Click the heart icon in the top-right corner of any station card
- Heart fills in → Station added to favorites
Visual cue: Filled heart = saved favorite, outline heart = not saved
Method 2: From Station Detail Page
- Click any station card to view full details
- Click the heart icon near the station name at the top
- Station saves to your favorites instantly
No confirmation needed - the heart icon fills immediately when saved.
Sign-In Required
Important: You must be signed in to save favorites.
If not signed in:
- Clicking the heart icon redirects you to the sign-in page
- After signing in, you'll return to the station page
- Click the heart icon again to save
Viewing Your Favorites
Access your favorites:
- Sign in to your account
- Click your profile icon (top-right corner)
- Select "Favorites" from the dropdown menu
- See all saved stations in one list
Alternative path:
- Dashboard → Favorites (left sidebar)
What you'll see:
- All stations you've saved
- Station cards showing name, address, connector types, distance
- Same quick actions as search results (directions, details)
Organizing Favorites (Coming Soon)
Future features:
- Custom lists (e.g., "Work Commute", "Road Trip - SF to LA")
- Notes on each favorite (parking tips, best times to visit)
- Folders for grouping related stations
Currently, all favorites are in one list, sorted by most recently added.
Removing Favorites
To remove a station from favorites:
Method 1: From Favorites Page
- Go to Dashboard → Favorites
- Click the filled heart icon on the station card
- Heart becomes outlined → Removed from favorites
Method 2: From Station Detail Page
- Visit any station you've previously favorited
- Click the filled heart icon near the station name
- Station removed from favorites
No undo - but you can always re-save the station by clicking the heart again.
Using Favorites for Route Planning
Scenario: Planning a road trip
Step 1: Research your route
- Search for charging stations along your route
- Filter by DC Fast charging for highway stops
- Check hours of operation and pricing
Step 2: Save key stations
- Save stations every 100-150 miles
- Save backup stations near each primary stop
- Note amenities (food, restrooms)
Step 3: Access on the road
- Open Dashboard → Favorites on your phone
- See all saved stations with distances
- Click "Get Directions" to navigate
Pro Tip: Save 2 stations per stop (primary + backup) in case your first choice is full or out of service.
Favorites Limits
Free users: Unlimited favorites ✓ Premium users: Unlimited favorites ✓ Premium Multi users: Unlimited favorites ✓
All users can save unlimited favorite charging stations. No restrictions.
Sharing Favorites
Currently: Favorites are private to your account.
Workaround for sharing:
- Go to your Favorites page
- Click a station to view details
- Copy the URL from your browser
- Share the URL with others
Coming Soon: Export favorites as a shareable list or route file.
Favorites vs. My Locations
Confused about the difference?
Favorites (Drivers):
- Stations you use for charging your EV
- Stations owned by others that you like
- For quick access when you need to charge
My Locations (Location Owners):
- Stations you own or manage
- Stations you've claimed on SpotCharge
- For managing your business listings
Can you save your own locations as favorites? Yes, if you also charge there as a driver!
Quick Tips
Save stations after your first visit:
- If you had a good experience, save it immediately
- Add notes about parking, amenities, reliability
Check your favorites before road trips:
- Verify hours of operation haven't changed
- Read recent reviews for updates
- Confirm connector types match your EV
Clean up old favorites:
- Remove stations you no longer visit
- Update favorites if you move or change routes
Use favorites for daily charging:
- Save your workplace charging station
- Save your gym's chargers
- Save reliable stations near home
