How to Claim Ownership of a Charging Location

Claiming Your Charging Location

If your charging station is already listed on SpotCharge (often from our NREL import), you can claim ownership to manage the listing, respond to reviews, and access analytics.

Why Claim Your Location?

  • Manage your listing: Edit details, add photos, update amenities
  • Respond to reviews: Engage with drivers and address feedback
  • Access analytics: See page views, review trends, popular times
  • Get verified: Earn verification badge for credibility
  • Control your presence: Keep information accurate and up-to-date

Before You Claim

What you'll need:

  1. Location Owner account - Sign up here and select "Location Owner"
  2. Proof of ownership:
    • Business license
    • Property ownership documents
    • Property management agreement
    • Utility bills or lease agreement
  3. Business information:
    • Business name
    • Contact email
    • Business website (optional)
    • Phone number

How to Claim a Location

Step 1: Find Your Location

  1. Go to /locations
  2. Search for your charging station by address or name
  3. Click on your station to view details
  4. Look for the "Claim This Location" button

Tip: If you don't see your location listed, you can add it manually instead.

Step 2: Start Claim Process

  1. Click "Claim This Location"
  2. Log in to your Location Owner account (or create one)
  3. Fill out the claim form:
    • Your name and title
    • Business name (must match your proof)
    • Contact email and phone
    • Relationship to property (owner, manager, operator)

Step 3: Submit Verification Documents

Upload proof of ownership:

Accepted documents:

  • Business license with matching address
  • Property deed or lease agreement
  • Property management contract
  • Recent utility bill with business name
  • Letter from property owner (on letterhead)

Document requirements:

  • Clear, readable scan or photo
  • Shows business name and location address
  • Dated within last 12 months
  • Accepted formats: PDF, JPG, PNG (max 5MB)

Step 4: Wait for Review

What happens next:

  1. Submission confirmed - You'll get email confirmation
  2. Under review - Our team verifies documents (1-3 business days)
  3. Approved or needs info - Email notification with status
  4. Location claimed - You can now manage the listing

Typical review time: 24-48 hours

If more info needed: We'll email specific requirements

After Claiming

Once approved, you'll have full access to:

Visit /dashboard/sites to:

  • View your claimed locations
  • See analytics and stats
  • Manage listings
  • Respond to reviews

What You Can Do

Immediately:

  • Edit location details
  • Add/update photos
  • Manage amenities
  • Update hours and pricing
  • Respond to reviews (within tier limits)

With verification badge:

  • Increased visibility in search results
  • "Verified Owner" badge on listing
  • Priority in search rankings
  • Enhanced trust with drivers

Managing Multiple Locations

Premium Multi tier required for 5+ locations.

  1. Claim each location individually
  2. Link to same business profile
  3. Manage all from single dashboard
  4. Bulk editing coming soon

Common Questions

Q: How long does verification take? A: Typically 24-48 hours. Complex cases may take up to 3 business days.

Q: Can I claim a location I don't own? A: Only if you're authorized (property manager, operator). You'll need written authorization from the owner.

Q: What if my claim is denied? A: We'll email you the reason and what additional documentation is needed. You can resubmit with corrections.

Q: Can multiple people manage one location? A: Not currently. Only one owner account per location. Team accounts are on our roadmap.

Q: What if someone else claimed my location? A: Contact support immediately with your proof of ownership. We'll investigate and transfer ownership if verified.

Q: Do I need a paid subscription to claim? A: No. Free tier allows claiming 1 location. Upgrade to Premium for 3 locations or Premium Multi for 5.

Verification Best Practices

To speed up approval:

Do:

  • Use clear, high-quality document scans
  • Ensure business name matches exactly
  • Include full address on documents
  • Use recent documents (within 12 months)
  • Provide business email (not personal Gmail/Yahoo)

Don't:

  • Submit blurry or partial photos
  • Use documents with different business names
  • Include personal information (SSN, personal addresses)
  • Upload files over 5MB (compress if needed)

After Verification

Next steps:

  1. Complete your profile: Add business logo, description, website
  2. Add photos: Upload high-quality location photos
  3. Update details: Verify hours, pricing, amenities are accurate
  4. Respond to reviews: Engage with your first driver reviews
  5. Monitor analytics: Track views and review trends

Transferring Ownership

If you sell or transfer property:

  1. Go to Dashboard → Sites → [Your Location]
  2. Click "Transfer Ownership"
  3. Enter new owner's email
  4. They'll receive claim instructions
  5. Verify transfer via email link

Note: Transfer requires verification from both parties.

Removing a Claim

If you no longer own the location:

  1. Dashboard → Sites → [Your Location]
  2. Click "Release Ownership"
  3. Confirm release
  4. Location reverts to unclaimed (viewable by public)

Warning: Cannot be undone. New owner will need to re-claim.
