Photo Best Practices

Timing & Conditions

Best time to photograph:

  • Midday (10am-2pm) for best natural light
  • Avoid early morning/late evening shadows
  • Overcast days = soft, even lighting (great for photos)
  • Avoid rain/snow (wet surfaces, poor visibility)

Seasonal considerations:

  • Update photos if landscaping changes significantly
  • Winter photos should show clear access (not snow-blocked)
  • Show seasonal amenities if relevant (outdoor seating)

Composition Tips

For location overview:

  • Include recognizable landmarks
  • Show station from street view if possible
  • Capture signage and building name
  • Use rule of thirds (don't center everything)

For stations:

  • Get close enough to see manufacturer logo
  • Include station number/label if visible
  • Show all ports clearly
  • Avoid cars blocking view (take photos when empty)

For connectors:

  • Fill frame with connector
  • Show connector type clearly
  • Include cable if it helps identify type
  • Make sure connector is clean

Mobile Photography Tips

Using smartphone:

  • Clean camera lens first
  • Tap screen to focus on station/connector
  • Use HDR mode for high-contrast scenes
  • Hold phone steady or use surface for support
  • Take multiple shots to ensure one is sharp
  • Use portrait mode for close-ups (if available)

Common Questions

Q: How many photos should I upload? A: Minimum 3 (overall view, stations, connectors). More is better, up to your tier limit.

Q: Can I upload photos from Google Street View? A: No. Use only photos you took yourself or have permission to use.

Q: Do photos affect search ranking? A: Yes. Listings with 3+ photos rank higher in search results.

Q: What if I reach my photo limit? A: Delete lower-quality photos to make room, or upgrade to Premium for 25 photos (or Premium Multi for unlimited).

Q: Can drivers upload photos to my listing? A: Yes, drivers can add photos with reviews. You cannot delete driver photos, but you can report inappropriate ones.

Q: Should I include my business logo in photos? A: Add logo to your business profile instead. Location photos should show the physical location/stations.

Q: What file format is best? A: JPG or PNG. HEIC works but converts to JPG on upload. Avoid GIF or BMP.

Q: Can I upload videos? A: Not yet. Video support is on our roadmap. For now, use photos only.

After Uploading Photos

Next steps:

  1. Verify appearance: View your listing as drivers see it
  2. Add captions: Provide context for each photo
  3. Monitor performance: Check analytics for view increases
  4. Update regularly: Replace photos if location changes
  5. Respond to reviews: Drivers may reference your photos

Optimization tips:

  • Use all available photo slots for your tier
  • Prioritize essential photos (location, stations, connectors)
  • Keep photos current (update at least yearly)
  • Show amenities to increase appeal
  • Upload during slow traffic times (faster uploads)
