SpotCharge tracks 1,770 public EV charging locations across Illinois, spanning 2,158 stations and 7,299 ports. 655 locations offer DC fast charging and 1,155 offer Level 2 (AC), with the fastest stations rated up to 480 kW. ChargePoint is the most common network in the state.
As of 2024, Illinois had 165,900 plug-in vehicles registered — 125,500 fully battery-electric (76%) and 40,400 plug-in hybrid (24%). That ranks Illinois #8 nationally and represents about 2.8% of all US plug-in registrations.
Across 6,526 publicly-listed ports in Illinois (2,857 Level 2 and 3,667 DC fast), that works out to roughly 25.4 EVs per public port and 34.2 BEVs per DC fast port.

Charging-infrastructure counts are SpotCharge directory aggregates compiled from OpenChargeMap, the US DOE Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC), and OpenStreetMap, covering publicly-listed stations in Illinois.
EV registration figures are 2024 data from AFDC (data from Experian Information Solutions). Numbers reflect publicly-accessible charging only (private/workplace/fleet sites excluded). Port counts are individual L2 or DCFC ports — a site with 8 DCFC ports contributes 8, not 1. EV count is BEV+PHEV combined; BEV-only is shown separately. Registration data is the latest annual AFDC/Experian snapshot.
