How to Cancel Your SpotCharge Subscription

Canceling Your Subscription

You can cancel your SpotCharge subscription anytime. Your account reverts to the Free tier, and your data is preserved.

Before You Cancel

Consider Downgrading Instead

If your concern is cost:

  • Downgrade to Free tier (keeps 1 location)
  • Pause during off-season, reactivate later
  • Data remains accessible

If you need fewer features:

  • Premium Multi → Premium
  • Premium → Free

What Happens When You Cancel

Immediate effects:

  • Cancellation confirmation email sent
  • Subscription marked "Active until [date]"
  • Keep paid features until end of billing period

At end of billing period:

  • Account reverts to Free tier
  • Payment method removed (no future charges)
  • Locations/resources beyond Free tier limits become inactive

Your data:

  • ✅ Locations preserved (inactive if beyond limit)
  • ✅ Stations and ports remain
  • ✅ Photos remain (can't add more if over 3)
  • ✅ Reviews and responses visible
  • ✅ Analytics history preserved
  • ✅ Business profile remains active

Nothing is permanently deleted when canceling.

How to Cancel

Step 1: Access Subscription Settings

  1. Log in to Dashboard
  2. Click "Subscription" in navigation
  3. See current plan and status

Step 2: Initiate Cancellation

Option A: Via Dashboard

  1. Scroll to "Cancel Subscription" section
  2. Click "Cancel Subscription" button
  3. Proceed to cancellation flow

Option B: Via Billing Portal

  1. Click "Manage Billing" or "Billing Portal"
  2. Find "Cancel Subscription" option
  3. Proceed to cancellation flow

Step 3: Cancellation Survey (Optional)

We'll ask why you're canceling:

  • Too expensive
  • Don't use features enough
  • Found alternative solution
  • Closing my charging locations
  • Just testing / Never intended to keep
  • Other (please specify)

Your feedback helps us improve. Honest answers appreciated.

Step 4: Confirm Cancellation

Review cancellation summary:

  • Current plan (e.g., Premium at $29/month)
  • Cancellation effective date (end of billing period)
  • What you'll lose access to
  • What you'll keep (Free tier features)
  • Refund amount (if applicable)

Click "Confirm Cancellation"

Step 5: Confirmation

You'll receive:

  • Confirmation screen: "Subscription canceled"
  • Email confirmation with details
  • Reminder email 3 days before effective date

Your subscription shows:

  • Status: "Active until [date]"
  • Next billing: Canceled (no future charges)

Cancellation Timing

Monthly Billing

Example:

  • Current plan: Premium ($29/month)
  • Billing date: 1st of each month
  • Cancel date: January 15

Timeline:

  • Jan 15: Cancellation confirmed
  • Jan 15-31: Keep Premium features (no refund)
  • Feb 1: Revert to Free tier
  • Feb 1: No charge (subscription already canceled)

Refund: None for monthly billing (you get full month of service)

Annual Billing

Example:

  • Current plan: Premium ($290/year)
  • Renewal date: June 1
  • Cancel date: December 1 (6 months into year)

Timeline:

  • Dec 1: Cancellation confirmed
  • Dec 1 - May 31: Keep Premium features
  • Pro-rated refund: $145 (6 months unused)
  • June 1: Revert to Free tier
  • June 1: No charge (subscription already canceled)

Refund: Pro-rated for annual billing (unused months)

Refund Policy

Monthly Subscriptions

No refunds for:

  • Canceling mid-month
  • Unused time in current month
  • Previous months

Why: You receive full month of service you paid for. No partial month charges.

Annual Subscriptions

Pro-rated refunds for:

  • Canceling mid-year
  • Downgrading mid-year (to lower annual plan)

Calculation:

Refund = (Months Unused / 12) × Annual Price

Example:

  • Annual Premium: $290
  • Canceled after 3 months
  • Unused: 9 months
  • Refund: (9/12) × $290 = $217.50

Refund timeline:

  • Processed within 5-7 business days
  • Refunded to original payment method
  • Appears in account 5-10 business days

No Refunds For

Trial periods (already free) ❌ Previous billing periods (service already rendered) ❌ "I didn't use it" (subscription was active) ❌ Forgetting to cancel (manage your subscriptions)

Exception: Billing errors or duplicate charges - contact support for immediate refund.

What You Keep (Free Tier)

After canceling, you retain:

Account access - Still log in to dashboard ✅ 1 location - Choose which to keep active ✅ 3 stations per location - Basic charging info ✅ Unlimited ports - Connector details remain ✅ 3 photos - Choose which to keep visible ✅ All reviews - Past reviews and responses visible ✅ Basic analytics - View page views and ratings ✅ Business profile - Remains active (no tier restriction)

Limited features:

  • 3 review responses per month (down from 25/unlimited)
  • No custom amenities (removed from listings)
  • Can't add more locations (1 maximum)
  • Can't upload more photos if over 3

What Becomes Inactive

If you exceed Free tier limits:

Locations (limit: 1)

  • Choose 1 location to keep active
  • Others marked "inactive":
    • Hidden from driver searches
    • You can view (read-only)
    • Reactivate by deleting active location or upgrading

Photos (limit: 3)

  • Choose 3 photos to keep visible
  • Others hidden from drivers
  • Still in your account
  • Delete extras or upgrade to show more

Stations (limit: 3)

  • Excess stations become read-only
  • Drivers still see them
  • Can't edit until under limit

Custom amenities

  • Removed from public listings
  • Stored in your account
  • Restore by upgrading

Reactivating After Cancellation

Changed Your Mind?

Before effective date (still active):

  1. Dashboard → Subscription
  2. Click "Reactivate Subscription"
  3. Confirm reactivation
  4. No interruption in service
  5. Billing continues as normal

After reverting to Free tier:

  1. Dashboard → Subscription
  2. Click "Upgrade" to Premium or Premium Multi
  3. Choose billing cycle
  4. Add payment method
  5. Instant reactivation

Your data is waiting:

  • Inactive locations reactivate
  • Hidden photos become visible
  • Custom amenities restored
  • Full features returned

Subscription History

If you cancel and reactivate:

  • New subscription ID (treated as new subscription)
  • Billing date may change (starts from reactivation date)
  • No gap in data (everything preserved)

Trial eligibility:

  • Cannot use free trial again (one-time per account)
  • Must pay from day 1 if reactivating

Alternatives to Canceling

Downgrade to Free Tier

Better than canceling if:

  • You want to keep 1 location active
  • Might upgrade again later
  • Want to maintain visibility for that location

How it differs from canceling:

  • More intentional (choose which location to keep)
  • No "reactivation" needed (already active on Free)
  • Clearer limits management

Pause & Resume Later

No official "pause" feature, but you can:

  1. Cancel subscription (keeps data)
  2. Return months later
  3. Upgrade to reactivate

Use case:

  • Seasonal businesses (summer only)
  • Construction/renovation period
  • Budget constraints (temporary)

Cost savings example:

  • Premium 12 months: $348
  • Premium 6 months (summer): $174
